Google Translate Shows Bush as US President
Google Translate Shows Bush as US President - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

Google translate is a powerful tool - it's free and translates in seconds. what more could you ask for?

Maybe a little more accuracy as one recent report by the Register points out. While using Google to translate a French newspaper article, a reader noticed something very wrong. The French words, “le président américain” from the news release translated to “Bush”. Presuming the system was referring to previous president, George W. Bush, the Google Gods need to do some updating considering he has been out office since early 2009.

Oddly enough, further probing showed that just keying in “le président américain” doesn’t result in the same mistake. The translator only seems to get confused when working with a wordy French article.

Other Google Translate errors have led to serious consequences as well. In a 2010 story, a Russian trucker living in the Netherlands was released after the court summons was incorrectly translated. What should have read, “you are to appear in court on 3 August 2010” was translated to “you have to avoid being in court on 3 August 2010.”
