China has been holding military exercises in the sea and airspace around Taiwan, saying they're in response to "collusions and provocations" by Taiwan and the US. <br />This statement came just ahead of a visit from US Senator Rick Scott to Taipei for talks with president Tsai Ing-wen. China claims Taiwan as its own territory. <br /><br />Taiwan meanwhile has been bolstering its own defense capabilities in light of the ongoing Chinese threat. Its armed forces are mostly equipped by the US, but President Tsai Ing-wen has made developing an advanced, homegrown arms industry a priority. The self-governing island has just unveiled the newest addition to that effort. DW's Joyce Lee reports from Taiwan.
