Beatification of Oscar Romero big news in Central America

The big news out of Central America is the future beatification of Oscar Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador and advocate for progressive causes. He was killed by a right-wing death squad in 1980. Pope Francis' decision to recognize Romero as a martyr paves the way for him to be declared a saint, one of the few Latin American Catholics accorded such an honor.
